Recycling Plastics

One of the ways in saving our environment is recycling trash and garbage. Trash comes in many forms and sizes. It is segregated into three containers so that recycling can be made. In the US, three main divisions of garbage are implemented. The first container consists of “Biodegradable” materials such as fruit peels, left over foods etc. The second container consists of “Non-biodegradable” materials, which means that all plastics, bottles, glasses, etc are placed in this container and are re-used. And the last container consists of “Greens” which are dried leaves, cut grasses etc. Biodegradable and Green garbage can be buried under the ground and serve as a good fertilizer for the soil. But interestingly enough, Non-biodegradable materials such as HDPE are commonly used plastics and are recycled for future use of the planet.
HDPE means High Density Poly Ethylene plastic. This kind of plastic is used in so many ways because of its density, which is 0.941 - 0.965 gram/cc, and its efficiency in becoming a good water barrier and poor container of oxygen and carbon dioxide.
HDPE is used in several ways like:
- HDPE film are used as liners for cereal boxes and packaging for snack foods
- Can also be used as carbonated drink bottles
- Used for margarine tubs, deli food and whipped toppings
- Also used as detergent bottles, milk jugs, garbage containers, water pipes
- Containers of industrial chemicals like acids and bleach
- General use such as bread trays, films for grocery sacks injection-molded beverage cases
You can always sell your Scrap HDPE to nearby recycling plant or firm that collects and but HDPE products. With this noble cause of recycling products, you do not have to throw everything in the planetary bin, you just have to be patient and disciplined enough to segregate your garbage, and recycle them according to their three containers. Help the environment, segregate your garbage and recycle your scrap HDPE
