Where Is The Love?

131

Christmas should be a day of merriment, of love and giving, of sharing and receiving, and of magnanimous offering of self to others. This is the Christmas spirit when I was a kid. But now, who would feel the Christmas breeze if everywhere you turn to speaks an untactful array of selfishness and evil even in a special season like Christmas? These are the stories of the plight of ordinary people today who suffered mercilessly from the evil hands of greed, selfishness and power even at the Peak of the Christmas season which is the season of love.

2 weeks ago when I was watching the news, a woman with a terrible bandage on both of her ears was crying in front of National TV together with her husband and two kids. The woman was not rich. She just happens to receive a certain amount of cash as her Christmas bonus from the factory where she is employed. She took her family to Divisoria to go shopping considering her meager budget. Until her earrings were pulled from her two ears by a snatcher, which rendered it, torn and slit. Ironic as it may seem, the snatching took place just in front of the Divisoria Polic Station. The woman ended in a hospital having a stitch on both of her ears instead of her two earrings. The money was used for the treatment instead of the Family?s Christmas shopping. Now may I ask: where is the love on the part of the snatcher and the policemen of Divisoria?

Last week, hundreds of my province mates coming from the towns of General Luna and San Narciso Quezon was forced to evacuate their hometowns because of the Army’s 74th Infantry Battalion operating in the Bondoc Peninsula and the 76th IB operating in the Lamon Bay area. The poor farmers were abducted and tortured by Military men, forcing them to cough up if they were indeed members of the NPA. My kababayans were displaced from their own lands and were victims of Military Paranoia. Some of these evacuees were Children who stopped going to school since December 1 and others were even pregnant women who had no choice but to evacuate their homes in fear for the lives of their husbands and families. I don?t know the status of these farmers but as of this writing, the last info which I heard was that they are in Manila, specifically at the Quezon City Hall’s Freedom Park grounds, camping and built their makeshift tents to get the attention of the National Government of their plight. Now I ask: where is the love among these military men who were sworn to protect the very people they harass and torture? Where is the Love of our current Governor for these farmers to let this thing pass his attention yet he takes pride in every building he erects propagated through his unthinkable large billboards?

Just this Sunday, 15,000 members of a certain cult called ?Kingdom of Almighty God? coming from as far as Northern Luzon, Laguna, Quezon and Batangas held a sleepover rally at the Quirino Grandstand on Saturday night. Their leader, Salvador Corazon de Jesus, who claimed that he is the NEW JESUS CHRIST asked for a 100-500 pesos ($2-$10) entrance fee for the same event and promised the people that each person who will attend the rally will be given 100,000 pesos ($ 2500). The Police was alerted because some members who noticed that the event was fraudulent, head on to the Police Station to file charges. The leader was caught and later found that he was checked in at the Manila Hotel prime suites. Now May I ask: where is the love of this false prophet as to claim that he is GOD and to malign and take advantage of the financial situation of the poor people of the Philippines?

On the dawn of Sunday, at exactly 3:30 am, a couple sleeping peacefully in their home was awakened by a noise coming from their living room. The 51-year-old husband went to see the commotion and found two unidentified knife-wielding men wearing bonnets robbing their house. The two men quickly stabbed the helpless man to death while the wife escaped and called for help among the neighbors. The man was rushed to the MCU hospital only to arrive there, dead on the spot. Now may I ask: where is the love of these two robbers that they never thought of the value of life in exchange for the value of the certain amounts they stole? Where is the love for their neighbor, that it never occurred to them that the wife would spend her Christmas alone for the first time in her life, without her husband? Where is the love damn it! Where?

Last December 9, the court of appeals trashed the petition of a certain quadriplegic in his plea for innocence when he raped a 15-year-old girl with the help of his female cousin. The quadriplegic have reasoned out that he can never do such a thing since he is invalid and unable to perform sexual function, contradictory to what the experts in Physical Therapy says that the man is sexually functional and could hop using his both arms. Now the cousin of the quadriplegic was an accomplice. She pinned the hands of a 15-year-old girl to the floor while the quadriplegic put his weight on the girl?s genitals and lower extremities. With the court?s ruling, He and her pimp cousin will go to jail, but would never ever restore the lost virginity and purity of the 15-year-old girl. Now may I ask: where is the love in this quadriplegic that in spite and despite of his bad karma, he still managed to augment his sins through the help of his equally disgustful cousin, who by the way is also a woman. Where is the love you darn maniacs? Where?

The president said that the Cheaper Medicines Bill or most commonly known as the House Bill No. 6035 should be prioritized before the session ends this Christmas season. But it seems some congressmen are deliberately blocking the passage of this bill that will lower the prices of costly Medicines, price-tagged by multinational pharmaceutical companies. The lack of quorum proved potent in blocking the bill. Where are these congressional representatives when they are mostly needed? Albeit some made their opposition to the bill passive, but Representatives Ronaldo Zamora and Garcia (sorry I don?t know him and I have no interest of knowing him) has voiced their antagonism to this bill. How much my dear congressmen, how much? If Pharmaceutical companies can pay for the luxurious perks and caprices of numerous doctors they are courting just to endorse their products here in the country, how much more are some congressmen who puts price-tags on their statesmanship? Now where is the love baby? Where is the love?

If people think that robbing, snatching, raping, harassing, killing and accepting bribes is today?s way of the world?s practicality, they are indeed correct. But let me remind them that there is always an after life no matter what your religion is. Even atheist Philip Pullman in his movie the golden compass has his own version of afterlife in the form of souls going inside an animal called personal demons. The bottom line is: ?what you sow here on earth, you will reap in the after life?. It is either you are thrown into an eternal fire or become a cockroach as an atheist?s personal demon.

The law of love is universal and binding to all creatures here on earth. It is given to us by our creator to spend them not for ourselves but for those people around us. Otherwise, we will be spending our eternity asking ourselves ?where is the love?? and God will reply ?It?s in every people you meet, especially at Christmas, when my son was born?.

I’m always inspired by each of your entries (and sometimes, like now… I even cry after reading your entry).

I always manage to practice Christian values during Christmas — I donate exactly $100 every year (for the last 4 years running) to a food back charity in Toronto.

    God bless,
